Princess Aurora - Disney's Sleeping Beauty
Sleeping Beauty was my favourite Disney movie growing up, and I still think it's the most beautiful... I had to make a Princess Aurora at some point, and it had to be the blue version since that was my preference as a kid!

Construction Notes: Chase had made the pieces for the crown and necklace for me much earlier in the year, when I first started putting together a lavender version of her dress with some leftover fabric. I wanted to make a "real" version for myself at some point, but I didn't get around to it til Halloween of this year.0

I looked at the Disney park dresses a lot, and took ideas for the construction from them. I made the corset/white collar/pointed section as one piece, with a long-sleeved dress underneath. I found a pattern that was pretty much exactly what I wanted for the dress, it had a wonderfully full skirt and the pointed sleeves and everything. The only thing I had to change was the neckline. I was not terribly pleased with my fabric choices - I can see why so many people do the pink version instead, it was really difficult to find the different matching blues in the fabrics I wanted. Due to the fact all I could find were two blue fabrics that went together, instead of three, I decided to do like I did for Giselle and do a chiffon overlay over the skirt, to make it look a little different than the sleeves. I did end up having to dye the chiffon a little darker (which I was trying to avoid dyeing stuff!) and I left the front open similar to a couple of the park dresses I saw.

For the corset I used the bodice pieces from the dress pattern and lengthened it a little - I lined it with two layer of blue cotton, and used up the last of my good spiral steel boning on this project! (I originally bought a big roll of it for the princess group in 2005!) It laces up the back (and I need to get some blue lacing for it.) I came up with a pattern for the collar, and also for the "pointed section". I ended up going with a white satin with silver embroidery all over it, and used a very heavy interfacing in it. It closes in the back with a hook-and-eye. The pointed section I used the same heavy interfacing in, and trimmed it with a silver braided trim I found at the fabric store.

The wig was bought at cosworx. I waited til the night before halloween to mess with it, and I'm not terribly pleased with the job I did styling it. I want to go back and trim it a little in the front and recurl it before I wear it again. The shoes were some I had, and like I said, Chase made my crown and necklace.
