Various Elvish Cloaks - Lord of the Rings
What's more fun (and potentially goofy) than wearing a cape or cloak? I've made three "random" cloaks over the years - two are pictured here.

Construction Notes: The 2001 cape was made to resemble the elves of Rivendell. The "costume" worn under it was just a peasant blouse, green riding pants and riding boots. I found the velvet at my local fabric store, and used a pattern to put it together. It ties on.

The second, 2004 cape was made without a pattern, except the hood - I used part of another pattern for that. I bought the leaf shaped closure online. The velvet was given to me as a christmas gift the year before, and I kept trying to figure out what to use it for for months. I finally decided on another cape - this one has become my default cloak to wear over costumes if I need a little more warmth. It has armholes built into it so I keep the cape wrapped around me.

(Yes, I know the picture above is a drawing of Arwen's Narsil costume; I didn't have anything else to use as a picture for this page, and it was pretty, so there.)

The 2001 cape has been used for so many different costumes and instances (most often for one of my friends to wear as my "handmaiden")! It's come in so handy! I love my purple cape though, it's my favourite. My third cape is a silver one, that is still laying around unfinished - one day I will finish it and post it here.
