Inspiration:
I'd had some Bruce Timm art of Huntress saved in my "Costume Possibilities" folder for a while, and finally had the chance to do it.
Construction Notes:
I bought the purple fabric online with the intention of dyeing, but I liked the tone of it so I decided to leave it as it was and see how it looked finished. I made a couple of mockups of the suit with leftover spandex from other projects. That was fairly easy, my only issue being the fit around the waist - something I want to go back and fix before Dragoncon. (It looked find as long as I wasn't leaning to one side, then it would buckle.) I think I have decided to go back and airbrush some darker shadows in on the purple areas - but not not full-on dyeing it darker all the way over.
The cape I made without a pattern, it snaps closed at the neck in the back. I originally sewed on some velcro in the front to keep the center vertical stripes lined up, but didn't like how it looked so I removed it, but then had trouble keeping the cape in place, so I think I'm going to put it back. All of the white trim I made out of white spandex. The boots I bought online and made boot covers for. The belt was a belt blank dyed lavender, it snaps in the back. Chase made the belt boxes and belt buckle.
The armbands and legbands Chase made using some kind of resin pieces, painted and attached to elastic. For the mask, he made a cast of my face, then built it up vac-formed a piece of plastic around it. It's nice and lightweight, I like it. The crossbow was bought online and taken apart, and for the gloves, I made the upper section, then bought a pair of wrist-length gloves on ebay and dyed them to match (so I could take off just the hand section instead of the whole contraption if I needed to).
Thoughts:
I intended to do a night-time shoot with this at Dragoncon, but we never got the chance. I still want to go back and add some depth to the purple, one day.
