| Animated Dress - Star Wars, Gentle Giant Maquette
When I first saw this new maquette produced by Gentle Giant, I wasn't sure what to think. I love the Clone Wars style, but I didn't particularly like how... umm, "sultry" they had made Leia look. It eventually grew on me, and I thought it would be fun to make as a convention costume. |
| Construction Notes:
I used a KwikSew pattern for the dress that was very similar to it, and I didn't have to change it much! I used white spandex for the dress, so it would be form fitting, and lined it with a skin-tone spandex. The only alterations I made from the pattern were the slits up the front, making the sleeves larger and adding the hood.
The belt both Chase and my father helped me make; just like my original Leia belt, we bought a big piece of leather and cut the shape out, then dyed it white. The metal pieces are craft metal with the buttons glued on, and then each piece was rivetted onto the belt. The boots I already had.
This ended up being a whole lot of fun to wear! Especially at Comic Con, where Gentle Giant had a huge statue of the maquette in front of their booth! I'm also surprised at the amount of people now interested in doing this costume - I don't blame them, it's a fun one to wear. |
