Mara Jade - Star Wars
I desperately wanted to do something different - but still Star Wars - for Celebration III, after spending so many months working on the Queen Amidala parade dress. I was sick of sewing petals! Someone had once suggested I go as Mara Jade - so I thought that would be something fun to do.
Construction Notes: I searched for a long time for a good fabric to use, and finally found a stretch pleather online. I used a pattern for a bodysuit, making it a little larger than the pattern called for, since my pleather didn't stretch as much as the pattern called for. I then took it in as needed. It was generally pretty easy, but it was hard to get it fitted exactly right towards the end, and I discovered the pleather is very unforgiving - I had to take out a large seam to move it - and it tore the fabric up. The suit has gone through a couple of repairs thanks to that, but eventually I hope to replace that section of the leg when I finally do the quilting there.

The hood was just a simple tube of fabric. The goggles I found on ebay, they're so awesome! I made a quick pair of gloves - fingerless, easier to make, since I was beginning to run out of time by then. The belt and shoulder straps and armbands my father helped me make - we cut them out of large strips of leather and dyed them, and the belt buckle I found at the leather store. I had the boots, and I found a pair of catcher's shinguards. I sanded the logos off and painted over the gold rivets.

The pictures at the top, with the white background, were taken in 2009, after I had cut my hair. It wasn't long enough to do Mara anymore so I had to use a wig - but the wig was too thick for me to put the hood and goggles over it. So it's a mix of both :)
