Inspiration:
I love this little elvish-looking version of Poison Ivy. Despite the fact I keep saying "No more costumes that involve body painting" - I decided to do this for Dcon 2009.
Construction Notes:
This started out easy enough - I realised it was a way I could reuse my Starfire wig from the year before. I had enough leaves still leftover from my previous Poison Ivy to do most of the work on the top and the bottoms, I just painted them with a wash of bronze and darker green. I bought a bra and covered it in the leaves, along with a swimsuit bottom for the bottoms. I made the flap for the back section and covered it also - that's where I ran out of the original leaves and had to finish it off with some that weren't quite as nice.
The boots were a pair of boots I already had, I made boot covers for them out of some leftover green suede. I bought a lot of moss and vine-y looking stuff from Hobby Lobby and glued, stapled, hand-sewed, whatever I could do make them stay on the boot covers LOL. I sewed a few vines onto the wig and also to the bottoms, though I ended up pulling them off at the con because I didn't have time to fix them down the way I wanted. The back piece I designed a frame for, and Chase made it for me. I took a couple of big vines I bought, add some more vines and leaves, and wired them onto the frame. The frame ties onto some D-rings I sewed onto the bikini top. A lot of it ended up being fairly last minute because I spent so much time fooling with the boot covers, I didn't even know if I would finish it all in time.
I originally dyed a bodysuit to match my skin makeup - I only intended to paint my shoulders, arms and face, the bodysuit would cover my midsection and legs. I had it matching pretty well at the time of my test run with the makeup. Then I realised the bodysuit had a seam down the front, which would look weird! So I just decided to use it for my legs. Well come to the convention and for some reason the bodysuit no longer matched my skin makeup - I guess I was doing the make-up different, so I had to paint my legs. It took way longer than I planned, I was late to the Harley/Ivy shoot and I didn't quite get it as far down as it should have gone! I wish I'd given myself more time to put this on, but c'est la vie. Despite the isseus I like how it turned out.
