| Age of Apocalypse Uniform - X-Men: Age of Apocalypse
When I first made my Shadowcat costume back in 2002, I thought it would be fun to do her AoA incarnation as well. I really liked the design of it, but I didn't think it would be recognizable... when we decided to go to Comic Con, I figured that was my chance to wear it where enough people might know who I was dressed as!

| Construction Notes: I lucked into the wig - I found one that was already perfect, I thought for sure I'd have to buy one and style it! I bought the bodysuit and replaced the straps with clear ones. The boots I had already bought for my Imperial Officer. The belt cracks me up - I can't believe I made it the way I did. I made it out of vinyl, covered in gaffer's tape, and spray painted silver. It velcros in the back. The "pouchs" I made of Altoids boxes - I sanded the paint off and then velcroed them to the belt. The front belt buckle I made of sheet metal, and the "X" symbol I made of black and red duct tape.
The claws were the major part of the costume - my dad and I were originally going to make them of styrene, but that didn't work too well, so we made the arm section out of very heavy cardboard, covered in a thin coat of wood putty and painted silver. The claws WERE made of styrene, and were glued down into the "chamber" we made on the cardboard section. They're pretty lightweight and easy to wear. The gloves that go on top of them I made of black spandex.
I only wore this once, and then for only an hour or two. I'd really like to wear it again, maybe to Dragoncon one year! |
